Takin' Care of Business

Autumn has arrived and not only have the leaves begun to fall, but also the job market and our bank account totals. The trips to and fro job interviews have gotten increasingly beautiful as the foliage has begun up here in Treeland. You’d be surprised how pretty a placed called Athol actually gets. We have found ways to survive our “down time,” the first being to banish the phrase “unemployed” from the house.

Zane has started a leaf raking business, going door to door with a heart full of hope and a wallet full of flies. People seemed willing to help, despite early for raking, and let him creepily hang out in their yards for an hour or so. It would have been fine, if he hadn’t just played in the pile once he made it.

Since the house never seems to stop buzzing with activity, I decided to make a go of landlording. While it was a rough go collecting from my brother for a house I don’t even own and refuse to fix things on, I prevailed. After a listing on Craigslist I even found a nice little Polish family to live in the upstairs. No one’s noticed yet, but the smell of perogies is getting stronger.

Our bottle collections and spare change hoarding has been the most prosperous. Zane looks really good in that bright orange vest on the side of the road and I have mastered the “wait till that man with a rusty grocery cart of cans falls asleep and attack” method. No matter the technique, those nickels sure add up! We went out to the movies last night on Bud Light Lime’s dime, er, nickel.

Lastly, we have tried seeking out sponsors for our blog. Have I mentioned how wonderful the crisp, refreshing taste of Bud Light Lime is? It’s no longer just a summer beverage, but a year round delight. I suggest you and 5 of your friends go pick up some Bud Light Lime, with the sassy green label, and enjoy it while you associate it with Hers & His blog.

Bud Light Lime, the summer state of mind.
